Terms of Use

These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your use of StopMe.

By using StopMe, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

1. What StopMe Does

StopMe is a social decision tool designed for moments when you want to buy something but think you might be better off pausing first.

You can create a StopMe case, share it with other people, and ask them to vote:

  • SKIP — walk away;
  • WAIT — give it some time; or
  • BUY — they think it may be worth buying.

Visitors may also leave optional advice.

The final decision always belongs to the person considering the purchase.

2. StopMe Is Not Professional Advice

StopMe does not provide financial, investment, legal, medical, psychological, or other professional advice.

Votes, advice, and other user-submitted content represent individual opinions and may be inaccurate, incomplete, inappropriate, or unsuitable for your circumstances.

A majority vote does not mean that a decision is objectively correct.

You are responsible for evaluating the information you receive and making your own decisions.

3. Eligibility

StopMe is not intended for children under 13.

If applicable law requires parental or guardian permission for you to use an online service or consent to the processing of your information, you may use StopMe only if the required permission has been obtained.

4. No Account Required

StopMe currently allows people to use the service without creating a traditional account.

Owner access may be associated with:

  • the browser where a case was created; and
  • a private owner link.

You are responsible for protecting your private owner link.

Anyone who gains access to that link may potentially be able to use owner functions for the associated case.

StopMe is not responsible for owner access lost because you cleared browser data, lost your private owner link, or shared that link with someone else.

5. Public Cases

StopMe cases are designed to be shareable.

Content submitted to a public case may be visible to anyone who receives or otherwise accesses the public case link.

Do not submit:

  • passwords;
  • payment-card or bank-account details;
  • home addresses;
  • confidential information;
  • sensitive personal information; or
  • information about another person that you do not have the right to share.

6. Your Content

You retain ownership of content that you submit to StopMe.

By submitting content, you give StopMe a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide license to host, store, reproduce, resize, format, display, and distribute that content only as reasonably necessary to:

  • operate StopMe;
  • display your case;
  • generate sharing previews;
  • enable sharing;
  • protect and maintain the service; and
  • provide the functionality you requested.

You represent that you have the rights necessary to submit the content you provide.

This license ends when the content is deleted from the service, except to the limited extent that retention is reasonably necessary for backups, security, legal obligations, or dispute resolution.

7. Acceptable Use

You may not use StopMe to submit, upload, or distribute content that:

  • violates applicable law;
  • infringes another person’s copyright, trademark, or other rights;
  • exposes another person’s private information without permission;
  • contains threats, targeted harassment, or abusive conduct;
  • promotes fraud, scams, or deceptive activity;
  • contains malicious software or malicious links;
  • sexually exploits or abuses minors;
  • facilitates illegal transactions;
  • impersonates another person in a deceptive way; or
  • is intended to interfere with, damage, overload, or compromise StopMe or its users.

Our Community Guidelines provide additional guidance about acceptable participation.

8. Votes and Advice From Other Users

StopMe does not verify whether votes, advice, or other user-submitted statements are accurate.

You may disagree with community feedback.

StopMe is intended to introduce a pause and another perspective before a purchase. It does not make the decision for you.

9. Products, Sellers, and Transactions

StopMe does not sell, inspect, certify, endorse, or guarantee products discussed in user-created cases.

We are not responsible for:

  • product quality;
  • product safety;
  • seller conduct;
  • pricing accuracy;
  • product availability;
  • shipping;
  • refunds;
  • warranties; or
  • transactions between you and any third party.

10. Content Removal and Enforcement

We may remove or restrict content that we reasonably believe:

  • violates these Terms;
  • violates our Community Guidelines;
  • violates applicable law;
  • creates security risks; or
  • threatens the integrity or operation of StopMe.

We may also restrict access to the service where reasonably necessary to prevent abuse or protect StopMe or its users.

11. Service Availability and Changes

StopMe is an early-stage service.

Features may:

  • change;
  • fail;
  • become unavailable;
  • be added or removed; or
  • be discontinued.

We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation.

12. Disclaimer

To the extent permitted by applicable law, StopMe is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis.

We do not guarantee that:

  • StopMe will prevent an unwanted purchase;
  • community advice will be accurate or useful;
  • you will save money;
  • a product that users recommend buying will be worthwhile;
  • any particular result will occur; or
  • the service will always be available.

13. Limitation of Liability

To the extent permitted by applicable law, StopMe and its operator will not be liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary, or punitive damages arising from:

  • your use or inability to use StopMe;
  • decisions made based on votes or advice;
  • content submitted by other users;
  • third-party products or sellers; or
  • loss of access to a case or private owner link.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where doing so would be prohibited by applicable law.

14. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms as StopMe develops.

When we make changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above. Where appropriate, we may provide additional notice of material changes.

Your continued use of StopMe after updated Terms take effect means you accept the updated Terms where permitted by law.
