Privacy Policy

StopMe (“StopMe,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a web tool that helps people pause before a purchase by posting an item they are considering, sharing it with others, and receiving SKIP, WAIT, or BUY votes and optional advice.

This Privacy Policy explains what information StopMe processes, why we use it, and the choices available to you.

1. Information You Provide

When you create or interact with a StopMe case, you may provide information such as:

  • product photos;
  • item name;
  • price and currency;
  • why you want the item;
  • why you think you should not buy it;
  • an optional message or plea;
  • owner updates;
  • SKIP, WAIT, or BUY votes;
  • advice or other messages submitted to a case; and
  • likes or reactions to advice.

You do not currently need to create an account to use StopMe.

2. Public Content

StopMe cases are designed to be shared.

Content submitted to a public StopMe case may be visible to anyone who has access to the public case link. This may include:

  • product photos;
  • item information;
  • reasons for wanting or hesitating about a purchase;
  • owner updates; and
  • advice submitted by visitors.

Please do not submit information that you consider private, confidential, or sensitive.

A private owner link is different from the public case link. Do not share your private owner link with voters or other people unless you intend to give them access to owner functions for that case.

3. Owner Access and Browser Storage

StopMe does not currently use traditional user accounts.

Owner access may be remembered in the browser where a case was created and may also be restored using a private owner link.

StopMe may use browser storage, such as local storage or similar technologies, to:

  • remember cases created in your browser;
  • restore owner access;
  • show recent StopMes created in that browser; and
  • preserve certain product states needed for the service to work.

Information stored locally may be lost if you clear browser data, use private browsing, or switch browsers or devices.

Sensitive owner credentials stored by StopMe are designed to be protected rather than stored on our servers as plain-text secrets.

4. Information Processed Automatically

When you use StopMe, we and our infrastructure providers may automatically process technical information such as:

  • IP address or network information;
  • browser and device type;
  • operating system;
  • referring website or page;
  • landing page;
  • timestamps;
  • UTM campaign parameters; and
  • interactions with StopMe features.

We may collect basic product analytics, such as whether a case was created, shared, voted on, or completed, so that we can understand how the service is used and improve it.

We do not intend to send private owner credentials, uploaded image contents, or complete free-text responses to third-party analytics services.

5. How We Use Information

We use information to:

  • provide and operate StopMe;
  • create and display public cases;
  • enable voting and advice;
  • restore owner access;
  • generate public sharing previews;
  • maintain locally created case history;
  • understand how people use the product;
  • improve usability, performance, and reliability;
  • prevent abuse, fraud, and security problems;
  • enforce our Terms of Use and Community Guidelines; and
  • comply with applicable legal obligations.

6. Service Providers

StopMe relies on third-party service providers to operate the service.

These currently include:

  • Vercel, for website hosting and infrastructure; and
  • Supabase, for database and file-storage services.

These providers may process information on our behalf as necessary to provide their services and are subject to their own privacy policies and terms.

If we materially change the services we use to process user information, we may update this Privacy Policy.

7. When Information May Be Shared

We may disclose information:

  • when you intentionally make it public through a StopMe case;
  • to service providers needed to operate StopMe;
  • when reasonably necessary to investigate abuse, fraud, or security incidents;
  • when required by applicable law or valid legal process; or
  • in connection with a future sale, transfer, restructuring, or similar change involving the service.

StopMe does not currently sell personal information or operate a behavioral advertising business.

8. Data Retention

We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary to operate StopMe, maintain security, resolve disputes, comply with legal obligations, and improve the service.

Retention periods may vary depending on the type of information.

Public case content may remain available until it is deleted, removed, or no longer reasonably needed to operate the service.

Limited information may remain in backups, security records, fraud-prevention records, or records we are legally required to retain after other content has been removed.

9. Deletion and Privacy Requests

You may request deletion of content or information associated with a StopMe case by contacting:

support@stopmebuying.com

Please include the relevant public case URL.

For requests involving owner-controlled content, we may ask you to demonstrate control of the corresponding owner access before making changes.

Depending on where you live, applicable law may provide additional rights regarding access, correction, deletion, restriction, or objection to certain processing.

You may contact us at the same email address to make such a request.

10. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures intended to protect StopMe and the information it processes.

However, no internet service can guarantee absolute security.

You are responsible for keeping your private owner link confidential.

11. International Processing

StopMe and its service providers may process or store information in countries other than the country where you live.

Those countries may have privacy and data-protection laws that differ from those in your jurisdiction.

12. Children

StopMe is not intended for children under 13.

If the law where you live requires a higher age before you can consent to the processing of your personal information on your own, you should use StopMe only with any parental or guardian permission required by applicable law.

If we learn that personal information from a child was collected in circumstances where legally required permission was not obtained, we may take reasonable steps to remove that information.

13. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as StopMe changes.

When we make changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above. If a change is material, we may provide additional notice where appropriate.
